Woman, two children killed in Highway 97 crash

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ore. – Police say a woman and two children died in a crash on Highway 97 in Jefferson County early Friday morning.

Oregon State Police troopers responded to the crash near milepost 80 around 2 a.m.

Police say 33-year-old Sarah Marie Steffler, from Moses Lake, Wash., was driving northbound on the highway when she crossed into the southbound lanes and struck a guardrail before colliding with a southbound 2006 Kia Sportage.

Police say 40-year-old Miguel Galvan Sanchez, of Manson, Wash., was driving the Kia. He had three passengers with him.

Steffler and a girl who was her passenger died at the scene of the crash.

Sachez and one passenger were taken by ambulance to St. Charles hospital in Madras. Another passenger was taken by air ambulance to St. Charles hospital in Bend.

A girl who was riding in Sanchez’s car also died at the scene.
