Man killed in deputy-involved shooting in Amity

AMITY, Ore. – A man was killed in a deputy-involved shooting in Amity Saturday morning.

Deputies responded to an Amity residence at 5:24 a.m. after a 911 caller said that a man she didn't know was inside her home. The caller said the suspect appeared to be intoxicated. After a few moments, the caller said the man had left her home.

Within 7 minutes of leaving toward the residence, a deputy found a man matching the description of the suspect. The man was approximately three blocks from the 911 caller's location. Deputies contacted him on Rice Lane near Jellison Avenue.

One minute later, deputies reported that shots had been fired. They called in additional units.

Officers from the McMinnville Police Department responded as cover.

Officers and deputies determined the suspect died at the scene.

The Yamhill County Major Crime Response Team is investigating the shooting.

The name of the man killed and the deputies involved are being withheld until next of kin is notified.
