Less than a day after hitting the dramatic game winner in the Portland Trail Blazers overtime win over Golden State, Damian Lillard is now being recognized for his efforts off the court, and three Portland high schools will see the benefits.

The NBA on Friday honored Lillard with its NBA Community Cares Award, recognizing his charitable efforts to support Portland high school students.

The monthly honor was awarded for Lillard's work to help improve attendance and graduation rates through his RESPECT program.

Lillard regularly visits students around Portland, hosting events and urging kids to value education.

He will be honored at Saturday night’s game and a check for $10,000 will be presented to Madison, Parkrose and Roosevelt high schools.
