Joe Douglass is an Emmy-nominated broadcast journalist who became a proud member of KATU's On Your Side investigative team in April of 2014. He was raised in the Portland area.
Born in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, Joe's family moved him north to Oregon when he was 3 months old. After growing up in Aloha and Beaverton, Joe moved back to L.A. for college, ultimately earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California. Joe then spent several years working as a teacher, theater producer, writer and actor. His creative work culminated with the sale of a screenplay in 2002.
A year later, after realizing the script he and his writing partner sold would likely never get made, Joe started looking for a new career. A close friend helped him land an interview at KTTV Fox 11 News and he began work as a production assistant. A lifelong news junkie, Joe immediately felt at home in the newsroom and wound up writing and producing newscasts within about a year. He worked for more than six years at KTTV, then for two years at KABC Eyewitness News.
Joe enjoyed writing and producing, but longed to incorporate his skills as a performer and to be able to focus more intensely on individual stories. With the help of photographers and editors he worked with, Joe put together a demo reel and eventually landed a reporting position at WEAR-TV in Pensacola, Florida, where he worked for two years before joining KATU.
When Joe's not working, he enjoys listening to and playing music, watching movies, reading, road trips and making new friends. He's honored and excited to be reporting here in his hometown.
